天美传媒 is first and foremost a community because community is fundamental to the Franciscan tradition. As a Franciscan institution, the Lourdes community acknowledges and celebrates its relationship to God, to self, to others, to all of creation. FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION

天美传媒 preserves the openness of public dialog and debate. An environment that encourages diverse views and the free exchange of ideas is vital to the 天美传媒 mission. The University鈥檚 policies seek to encourage open, on-going intellectual engagement and debate through civil, mutually respectful interactions. 天美传媒 respects the right of all members of the academic community to express their ideas freely and to demonstrate their concerns collectively聽by orderly means and respect the principles that govern the University. The University does not endorse political candidates nor does it necessarily endorse the views of speakers hosted on campus. Approval for speakers and external groups must be obtained by the President鈥檚 Cabinet. Non-approved vendors associated with the political event or speaker will not be allowed on campus property.

Members of the Lourdes community should understand that standards of civility, consideration, and tolerance must shape our interactions with each other. Infringing on the expression of views, either by interfering with a speaker or by defacing or removing properly posted or distributed notices or materials, will not be tolerated.

EVENTS, CAMPUS DEMONSTRATIONS (POLICY)

The University reserves the right to control the time, place, and manner of events that occur on campus. The University does not seek to censor the expression of ideas, but rather to maintain campus safety and order. Demonstrators may be assigned to particular places on campus by campus safety officers.

Demonstrations by members of the campus community may occur on campus, but must not disrupt the regular operation of the University.

GUIDELINES FOR DEMONSTRATIONS

Members of the Lourdes community are welcome to distribute literature where it will not interfere with classes or other University functions.

Demonstrators may neither impede nor harass people wishing to attend an event.聽 Disruption, force, or threat of force do not constitute acceptable forms of demonstration at 天美传媒. We may call on local law enforcement agencies and may choose to impose the University鈥檚 disciplinary sanctions on members of the University community who violate guidelines.

Individual members of the Lourdes community speak only for themselves in their public expressions and/or demonstrations. The office of University Relations coordinates institutional responses to the media.

STUDENT EMAIL

Every student currently enrolled at 天美传媒 is given an email account for his/her use for the duration of their time at Lourdes. This is an official form of communication from the University and students are expected to read and respond to official messages.

Student email accounts will be kept for two years after the student takes his/her last course. If a student returns to Lourdes after stopping out for two years, their email account will be recreated at that time. Students access email via logging into the

POSTING GUIDELINES

Posting Policy

The following policy is designed to allow registered student clubs, organizations, administrative and academic departments to properly post items on 天美传媒 property in a manner consistent with the mission of the University.

All advertisements and materials must be approved by the Office of Student Activities. Only individuals and organizations are permitted to post advertising if a stamp of approval has been provided by the Office of Student Activities. Advertising materials should be given to Student Activities, SCH 143, ajackson@lourdes.edu, X8413, no later than five business days before an event.

• Advertising material can be sent electronically for approval
• Advertising material can be taken to SCH 143 for approval

Each organization, administrative or academic department is responsible for posting and removal of materials. Advertisements can only be posted for two weeks (unless the event is held longer than one day) and must be removed no later than 48 hours after the event.

Advertisements cannot be posted to glass surfaces including doors, painted surfaces, trees, steps, sidewalks, or brick. Postings displayed in violation of this policy will be removed regardless of content.

Before materials can be posted, please make sure to do the following:

• Provide the name of the organization hosting the event, date, time, location, and appropriate contact information
• Include the disability-services information: 鈥楩or disability-related accommodations, contact the office of Accessibility Services at (419) 824 3523 or oas@lourdes.edu.鈥�
• Avoid any demeaning portrayal of the University or members of the Campus Community
• Refrain from violating any copyright laws or the use of anything that is not consistent with values of the University
• Note: No flyers can ever be posted on glass doors or windows in any building of the University.
• No flyers can be posted on the outside doors of the offices of the President and Vice Presidents.
• No flyers or banners are allowed on any terra cotta wall in Mother Adelaide or Russell J. Ebeid Hall.
• Flyers/posters not approved are subject to removal.

WEAPONS POLICY

The possession, wearing, carrying, transporting, or use of a weapon (gun, handgun, firearm, or other dangerous ordinance) is strictly forbidden on the Sylvania Franciscan Village property (this does not include on-duty law enforcement officers). This prohibition also extends to any person who may have acquired a government-issued permit or license. Also prohibited are any weapons that may be kept concealed in vehicles parked on Sylvania Franciscan Campus property and vehicles owned or leased by 天美传媒 or the Sisters of St. Francis.

Violation of this policy will result in disciplinary action and sanctions up to and including expulsion, in the case of 天美传媒 students, or termination of employment, in the case of employees.

Any questions regarding this policy, including the granting of exceptions for off-duty law enforcement officers, should be addressed to the University鈥檚 Director of Public Safety.

LOST AND FOUND

Lost or misplaced articles can be reclaimed, if found, at the Welcome Center in Russell J. Ebeid Hall.

POLICY REGARDING CHILDREN ON CAMPUS

The 天美传媒 campus welcomes children (defined here as anyone under 14 years of age) who are accompanied and supervised by a parent or adult caregiver. The supervision, safety and security of children are the responsibility of the parent or adult caregiver. The University assumes no responsibility for the safety and supervision of children left unattended. The University Campus Security Staff may be notified if a child is left in the Academic Support Center, Center for Professional Studies, Library, or other locations unaccompanied by an adult.

Please note the following:

Children, ages 14 or younger, must be under the direct supervision of a parent or an adult caregiver at all times while on campus.

Parents or other adult caregivers must monitor all activities and behavior of their children while they are on campus. They are also responsible for any damage to property done by the child. Parents will be asked to remove children from campus who exhibit disruptive behavior.

University computers are intended for research, University work and the completing of course assignments; they are not intended as diversions or entertainment for children.

IDENTIFICATION (I.D.) CARDS

An I.D. card is required to obtain a validated library card to borrow books from the Dun Scotus Library, to use the gym and fitness center, to use the Academic Support Center, The Grille, and Residence Hall Laundry Facilities and to obtain a parking sticker. A parking sticker will be issued to any student with a valid I.D. card and will remain valid for the duration of the student鈥檚 years at Lourdes.

WHY DO I NEED A LOURDES ID CARD?
Your Student ID has your student ID number, which you can use to access Web for Students. You will also need your ID to use the Library, Bookstore, and the Academic Success Center.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I LOSE MY LOURDES ID CARD?
If you lose or misplace your 天美传媒 Student ID, please contact the Information Technology Services Office immediately and we will deactivate your current card. Please note, there is a $6 fee to replace your Lourdes ID card.

To request your replacement 天美传媒 Student ID, please visit the Student Accounts office in Mother Adelaide Hall, and pay the $6 replacement fee. Bring your receipt to the ITS office in the basement of Russel Ebeid Hall (REH 003) and we will immediately print your replacement.

SYLVANIA FRANCISCAN VILLAGE HISTORIC CAMPUS GUIDELINES

The original 89 acres, known at the Historic Campus of the Sylvania Franciscan Village, is the home of the Sylvania Franciscan Sisters and a place of spiritual reflection graced with shrines, chapels and a cemetery. The retired sisters and residents often walk the campus or are out in wheelchairs or scooters. The Sisters share their home with 天美传媒. In this intergenerational space, caution when driving or biking, respect for the sacred spaces, for the sisters鈥� living areas and for the entire campus is expected and appreciated.

1. Walking the wooded paths and trails is permitted dawn to dusk.
2. Bicycles are permitted on campus dawn to dusk, but not on dirt paths and trails or in the area behind Greccio House and Rosary Care Center. Please be aware of the Rosary Care residents and
3. Others who may be out walking the campus. To assure the safety of everyone, skateboards and rollerblades and speed bikes are prohibited.
4. Recycling and energy conservation are a priority. Please dispose of your litter appropriately.
5. Photography on the grounds and exterior of the facilities is permitted. Photography of the interior of buildings needs the permission of the person in charge of that facility. Commercial and political signs are prohibited.
6. Drones may only be used on campus with the permission of the Director of Communication for the Sisters of St. Francis or the Director of Marketing & Communications for 天美传媒.
7. For the health and wellness of all, the campus is a smoke-free environment, including e-cigarettes. All use of tobacco is prohibited.
8. Weapons are contrary to our Franciscan value of peace and are prohibited.
9. In general, pets are prohibited. The exception is dogs on a leash with proper removal of waste disposal.
10. Alcohol use, apart from an approved event and private residences, is prohibited. Underage consumption of alcohol is always prohibited.
11. Weddings are not permitted on the campus grounds or in any building including Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel and the Portiuncula.
12. Emergencies: In case of an emergency, call #911 and then call Security at #411 from any campus phone. If not using a campus phone, call 419-574-3861.

For Sisters鈥� facilities and Regina Conference Room, separate work orders for set-up and take- down should be submitted five days prior to the event by the person(s) planning the event.

The scheduler should be informed if an event is cancelled or a tentative date not needed.

• Guidelines for External Groups Using the Campus
  All groups and individuals must reflect Catholic and Franciscan values.
• No structural changes may be made to the grounds; e.g. closing entrances. External activities should not impede access to other campus activities.
• The grounds must be left clean.
• Where appropriate, reverence and quiet should be maintained.

Smoking is prohibited on Sylvania Franciscan Campus property. Violation of this policy will result in disciplinary action and sanctions up to and including expulsion, in the case of 天美传媒 students, or termination of employment, in the case of employees.

Individuals who bring visitors, guests, contractors, etc. to campus are expected to inform them of 聽our site smoking policy and ensure they are in compliance.

Smoking anywhere on University property including, but not limited to buildings, parking lots, vehicles, outdoor areas, cloister walks, entrance and exit ways, etc. is not permitted except for the two designated smoking areas at Lourdes Commons (the cement picnic table located behind Rosaria Hall and the cement picnic table between Justinian and Bonaventure Halls). Smoking of any kind is explicitly prohibited inside the Lourdes Commons residence halls and any other campus buildings. The smoking ban also extends beyond the 89-acre campus to include adjacent properties (Canticle Center, The Den, Mission & Ministry house, the path between Lourdes Commons and Convent Blvd) and includes Lourdes owned or operated vehicles. This smoking ban does not apply to public rights-of-way (sidewalks, streets) on the perimeter of the campus.

鈥淪moking,鈥� as used in this policy, means smoking any substance including, but not limited to, tobacco, cloves, or marijuana. The use of smoke producing products including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, electronic cigarettes, etc. is also prohibited.

LourdesALERT聽powered by RAVE is a text message system designed to warn students, faculty and staff in the event of an emergency.

The program is an enhancement of Lourdes鈥� overall emergency preparedness plan and will only be used to notify participants of emergency situations, immediate weather alerts and school closings.聽Students are automatically enrolled in the program with no additional expense.

Please login to the聽聽to confirm your contact information and chose your contact preferences. (Note: your cell phone provider may charge a per text message for delivery to your phone if you do not have unlimited text).

You may sign in using your current Lourdes email address and will be prompted to finish the registration process. You may manage your account or chose to opt-out (choosing to opt-out will mean that you do NOT receive emergency notifications via LourdesALERT).聽聽If you have questions about the system or would like to receive an update via email, please聽contact us.

* Please note that no communication distribution method, including text messaging, is infallible. For that reason, Lourdes uses redundant systems of emergency communication, including telephone, website, email, and person-to person to distribute news and instructions during an emergency.

When considering closing or delaying the opening of 天美传媒, the Administration takes into account a number of factors, including:

• Local and regional weather forecasts
• Road condition information from the Ohio Department of Transportation
• The status of comparable institutions [universities, colleges, businesses]

Lourdes will usually not close for Lucas County Level I and Level II snow emergencies.

Please check the 天美传媒 website and local media when there is a Level III Snow Emergency in Lucas County.

The first notification of a closing or delay for weather or any other reason will typically be via the 天美传媒 website homepage and via a LourdesAlert text message. Announcements will follow on local radio and television stations and main Lourdes social media accounts.

Students are asked not to call Lourdes to inquire about classes. Classes will meet unless a closing / delay is posted on the website and announced through the media.

If the University will close due to severe weather,聽the following actions will be implemented:

• Notify students, faculty and staff via LourdesAlert
• Notify essential services if needed
• Evacuate if event requires
• Maintain status until the severe weather issue has passed
• Assess for injuries or damage
• Inspection of all facilities completely prior to re-occupying them
• If applicable, notify students, faculty and staff that it is safe to resume classes and operations

Essential Services

Essential services include personnel functions and聽roles that are critical to provide University services聽regardless of incident occurrence. There should聽be every effort made to maintain these services as聽long as it can be done safely. The specific functions聽that may be provided include University entrance聽capability, maintenance of operations, etc. Specific聽job roles can include the following:

• Student Housing
• Marketing & Communications
• Health, Safety and Environmental
• Food Services
• Maintenance
• Information Technology
• Any additional key operational and logistics聽related roles

University staff members in these roles designated聽as 鈥渆ssential鈥� will be expected to stay on site during聽incidents such as snow closures and similar human聽and natural incidents. The University must plan on聽providing food and sleeping quarters, if necessary.

In addition, they may need to arrive at the聽University prior to forecast incidents occurring and聽staying until the situation has been stabilized.

天美传媒 Connections (LUC) is a program designed with students鈥� success in mind. The mission of Connections is to provide a common experience where new scholars are welcomed into the Lourdes community while intentionally addressing personal and academic success strategies, communicating early and often about expectations, modeling the Lourdes mission, promoting opportunities for co-curricular involvement, and proactively addressing issues and concerns that college students experience on a national scale. Some programs of study have specific courses designated to fulfill LUC 102 鈥� 202.

Connections begins during Gray Wolf Registration Days, transitions through Welcome Weekend (the week prior to the start of the academic semester), and continues with a series of courses over the first two years of a student鈥檚 academic program.

MISSION STATEMENT

The department of Information Technology Services will advance the mission of 天美传媒 by providing a seamless technology infrastructure and services that support an environment dedicated to learning, reverence, and service.

AREAS OF OPERATION

ADMINISTRATION, GOVERNANCE, AND STRATEGIC PLANNING

Led by the Chief Information Officer, administration and governance is a crucial role in the ITS department.聽 This includes managing personnel issues, administering contracts and agreements, creating policy and procedures, and aligning the resources of the ITS department in order to support the mission and strategic plan of the University.

ACADEMIC SYSTEMS AND SERVICES

Academics and the pursuit of knowledge through research are the lifeblood of all universities.聽 Lourdes is no different in its mission to educate the students of the University.聽Through the seamless integration of technology into the classroom and the accessibility of information and resources, ITS will work to ensure that technology is never an impediment to the teaching and learning processes of Lourdes.

ADMINISTRATIVE TECHNOLOGY SERVICES

The staff and administration of Lourdes provide critical administrative and support that assists faculty and students in the teaching and learning process.聽To that effect, ITS will provide technology and services that automate and streamline non-academic processes as much as possible.聽In this effort, ITS will maintain a robust package of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools in a high-availability and secure environment that will be utilized by crucial support areas such as finance, HR, student accounts, admissions, advising, and many others.

INFORMATION SECURITY

Ensuring the safety and security of the various types of data housed by Lourdes is a top priority for the ITS department.聽Lourdes ITS also works to ensure that the University鈥檚 IT resources are compliant with the various regulatory requirements as well as federal, state, and local requirements.聽If you suspect that any data or sensitive resources of the University may be at risk, please contact Lourdes Information Security at infosec@lourdes.edu.聽For more information on security awareness, please visit the CyberAware page.

IT INFRASTRUCTURE

The network (both wired and wireless) as well as the servers, email and telecommunications systems, and identity management are the lifeblood of the IT organization.聽ITS strive to provide the most stable, flexible, and secure environment possible that provides unfettered access to information and resources for all members of the Lourdes community.

USER SUPPORT

Unfortunately, sometimes things break or don鈥檛 work as we expect them to.聽When this happens the ITS is able to provide user support both through our Help Desk and through desk-side support services.聽ITS can provide assistance with hardware and software problems, problems with the ERP or academic technology, classroom technology, and the procurement, setup, and installation of computers across campus.

天美传媒 promotes student engagement in student organizations, athletic teams, and other student groups as it enhances the student life experience and contributes to positive outcomes. Lourdes is dedicated to ensuring the University is a safe environment free from all forms of hazing.

All members of the University community, including students, faculty, staff, volunteers, guests, and visitors, are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that does not infringe upon the rights of others. Lourdes has a zero tolerance policy for hazing. Zero tolerance means that when an allegation of misconduct is brought to an appropriate administrator鈥檚 attention, protective and other remedial measures will be used to reasonably ensure that such conduct ends, is not repeated, and the effects on the individual whose rights have been violated as well as the effects on the community are remedied, including serious sanctions when a responding party is found to have violated University policy.

DUTY TO REPORT HAZING

Immediately upon learning of potential hazing, all 天美传媒 employees (including students), volunteers, advisors, consultants, and alumni have a duty to report any alleged violation of hazing. Each mandated reporter must report to the university and law enforcement.

Reporting can be done in multiple ways:

• If an active incident is occurring on campus, call Lourdes Security immediately, at 419-574-3861.
• If an active incident is occurring off campus, call 9-1-1 immediately.
• File an Incident Report.
• If after the fact, you can submit an anonymous form to: /lourdes-university-complaint-policy/.

HAZING DEFINITION

Hazing is defined by Ohio law as 鈥渄oing any act or coercing another, including the victim, to do any act of initiation into any student or other organization or any act to continue or reinstate membership in or affiliation with any student or other organization that causes or creates a substantial risk of causing mental or physical harm to any person, including coercing another to consume alcohol or a drug of abuse.鈥�

RESOURCES

HazingPrevention.Org is a national nonprofit dedicated to empowering people to prevent hazing. The goal is to educate people about the dangers of hazing, advocate for change, and engage the community in strategies to prevent hazing.

Effective December 23, 2023, 天美传媒 and ProMedica will discontinue our partnership with the Health and Wellness Center. Considering this change and our desire to offer our students and the University community essential health services, we are making temporary arrangements for the Spring 2024 term to meet our students鈥� day-to-day health service needs. A permanent solution is being explored for Fall 2024. More information regarding on-campus health services will be forthcoming.

The 天美传媒 Health Clinic provides services to all students, faculty and staff of 天美传媒 without leaving campus. We are located in Sylvan Square close to the Den.聽We strive to ensure that you have access to comprehensive health services on campus and receive continuous, individual care in a comfortable environment.

At the time of your visit, please bring your Lourdes ID, Driver鈥檚 License and Insurance card and any other forms which may need to be completed. There is NO co-pay for students at the time of service.

Please note: Scheduled appointments are required for physicals needed for sports, return to play and any curriculum-based requirement.

Counseling Services offers individual counseling, support services, resource information, and referral assistance for community services in areas such as depression, anxiety, grief and loss, adjustment issues, self鈥慹steem, parenting concerns, personal relationships, eating disorders, stress management, human sexuality and personal health issues, to name a few.

Exemption to Confidentiality
Suicidal situations are highly individual. The primary goal of this policy is student鈥檚 safety. To achieve this, appropriate family members will be contacted as necessary, under the direction of the Dean of Students, to promote the safety of the student and others whose health, life, or safety may be endangered. The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA, 34 CFR 99.36) provides for the release of normally protected student data when it is believed that the student represents a health or safety risk to self or others.

INSURANCE AND SELF-CARE

Students are responsible for managing their own physical, mental health concerns, and social service needs.聽Information and referral services for mental health and social concerns are available from Counseling Services, the Office of Student Affairs, or other appropriate professionals.

VACCINATION POLICY

天美传媒 does not require immunizations for admittance to the University. The University strongly recommends that you receive all of the following immunizations:

• Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): Two doses of MMR at least 28 days apart after 12 months of age
• Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (DT, TdaP, DTP, or TD): Booster dose within the past 10 years
• Hepatitis B: Series of 3 doses (Students participating in programs related to health, education, or studying abroad, may be required to be immunized against Hepatitis A and B).
• Meningitis Vaccine (Menactra): University populations are considered at increased risk, including students living in residence halls.

POLICY ON MENINGITIS AND HEPATITIS B

Ohio Revised Code Section 3345.85 for institutions of higher education requires that the institution maintain individual status records on meningococcal meningitis and Hepatitis B vaccinations for student living in on-campus housing. The 天美传媒 Residence Hall Health History Consent & Release Form contains a section asking for the vaccination status of a student who will be living in a residence hall. A housing contract will not be accepted if this information is not completed.

The Ohio Revised Coded (ORC) Section 1713.55 states that beginning with the academic year that commences on or after July 1, 2005, an institution of higher education shall not permit a student to reside in on-campus housing unless the student (or parent if the student is younger than 18 years of age) discloses whether the student has been vaccinated against meningococcal disease and hepatitis B by submitting a meningitis and hepatitis B vaccination status statement.
