Claire Clark, a multi-disciplinary conceptual ceramic聽artist from Bristol, England, has joined 天美传媒 as the Artist-in-Residence for the spring semester.

Clark鈥檚 award-winning artwork explores female issues by navigating the intersections of feminist art and medical humanities. Her experimental sculptures address intimate and often painful topics, such as trauma, grief, and loss, particularly concerning miscarriage, fertility struggles, and the emotional toll of facing a hysterectomy. Her artistic practice is deeply personal, stemming from her experiences, which she transforms into thought-provoking pieces exploring sensitive subjects.

Through her work, Clark aims to express personal pain and encourage conversations about these often taboo topics, fostering societal reflection and understanding. Her sculptures serve as a means of self-expression and a vehicle for healing, with each piece intended to validate the experiences of others facing similar struggles. Clark鈥檚 mission through her art is to inspire empathy, understanding, and empowerment.

Clark holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree in Fine Art from Bristol School of Art, South Gloucester & Stroud University, and a Master of Arts in Fine Art from Bath Spa University.

As Artist-in-Residence, Clark will collaborate with 天美传媒, The Sisters of St. Francis, and The Toledo School for the Arts to introduce university, middle, and high school students to her conceptual approach to healing through art. She will work alongside Jordy Rengifo Poma, a professional ceramic artist and Pre-Art Therapy student at Lourdes, in the Alverno Studio located on campus. Together, Clark and Poma will be the speakers for the 2025 Sr. Jane Mary Sorosiak Art Lecture Series, where they will discuss the role of art in healing. Additionally, Clark will create works for exhibition at The Toledo School for the Arts and the 天美传媒 Canticle Center Gallery.

Blending education and creativity, 天美传媒鈥檚 art adjunct, Patrick DuBreuil, and art major, Clare Bennett, are participating in the current聽Crow Show 2024聽exhibition at Arts Illiana in Terra Haute, Indiana.

Their involvement stemmed from a mutual interest in avian artistry when Clare Bennett stumbled upon the聽Crow Show聽and informed her mentor, Patrick DuBreuil, about the opportunity. DuBreuil, known for his expertise in assemblage art, found the idea intriguing.

Having previously worked with Sr. Magdala Davlin, OSF, on the Mother Adelaide sculpture, DuBreuil welcomed the chance to work with Bennett in a different capacity. As Clare鈥檚 printmaking instructor, DuBreuil offered guidance and support.

For the聽Crow Show, DuBreuil submitted an intricate assemblage piece using old albums, showcasing his talent for transforming everyday objects into art. Bennett contributed a striking print piece reflecting her own unique artistic vision.

罢丑别听Crow Show, open to submissions from North American artists, provides a platform for both established and emerging talents to explore the theme of crows in their artwork. The artistic interpretations of the subject are vast, allowing the individuality of the artists to shine through.

Entries for the聽Crow Show聽were accepted until January 5, with special guest artist Shayla Fish reviewing the submissions. Recently, both DuBreuil and Bennett learned their works were accepted for the exhibition, but it doesn鈥檛 stop there. Bennett鈥檚 piece sold, and DuBreuil won Best of Show.

Artists and art enthusiasts alike are invited to attend and immerse themselves in the creativity on display. The exhibition runs through March 15, 2024.
